Living with autism in Trinidad and Tobago : Rowan McEwen
Rowan Mcewen is a 13 year old Form 1 student of the prestegious Queen's Royal College in Trinidad and Tobago. Rowan was diagnosed with high functioning autism at an early age, and has since had thousands of hours of speech and social therapy. With the support of his family, therapists and teachers, he has proved that despite living with a disability, you can live a full and prosperous life in Trinidad and Tobago. As with many persons living with autism, Rowan has Chromesthesia; a type of synesthesia whereby sound automatically and involuntarily invokes a sensation of colour. He also has perfect pitch; a rare auditory phenomenon characterized by the ability of a person to identify or recreate a given musical note without the benefit of a reference tone.
